Introduction to Motivational Interviewing: This course will provide you with a good grounding in the fundamental principles and methods of MI. The training benefits from a variety of training methods including group work, video and audio examples of MI consultations and plenty of time to practice. Training is both knowledge and skills focussed. Post training supervision and MI skills assessment is also offered and highly recommended to help develop proficiency in the method.
Intermediate/Advanced Motivational Interviewing: Progress your MI skills. We cover more advanced skills in greater detail such as how to better recognise and elicit 'change talk.' You will have the opportunity to participate in skill development activities that are specifically tailored to the work setting and client groups. Post training supervision and MI skills assessment is also offered and highly recommended to help develop proficiency in the method.
Supervision and Motivational Interviewing Skill Assessment: MI is most likely to be effectively integrated into routine practice if practitioners engage in supervision and have opportunities for the assessment of skills as they develop. Group or individual supervision for those who are newly trained or practitioners wanting to develop skills can be arranged and tailored upon request. Personalised feedback and coding of recorded consultations can also be provided upon request. These services can also be added to MI training courses which is highly recommended to enhance skill development.
Coaching: Similarly to the range of MI courses and training offered, HHC also offers a range of person-centred coaching programmes that are designed to specifically suit the needs of your organisation and the context in which trainees work. Common applications include health behaviour change, care navigation/social prescribing and leadership.
Broader Applications: Charlotte and associates are passionate about organisational change and opportunities to integrate person-centredness into workplace settings. MI and coaching skills have the capacity to improve interpersonal relationships within organisational settings that contribute to an efficient and healthy working culture. HHC can support this process for those that are interested in building and enhancing collaborative, strengths-based and empathic working relationships. Training programmes in MI-Informed Leadership are also offered. Motivational Interviewing and person-centred coaching skills are highly effective for social and healthcare navigation, particularly when supporting individuals who have complex needs to access the most appropriate care/service. Motivational Interviewing/health coaching for health and social care navigation is also offered.

"Dr Hilton provided training in motivational interviewing for the physical health care teams at West London mental health trust. The feedback from the participants was clear and unanimous: Dr Hilton provided appropriate and useful training for the difficult group of patients for which we provide care. Her teaching style was engaging, varied, and effective. Her management of the training was equally professional, and she delivered on all the promises that she had made during the training sessions. I would have no hesitation in engaging her again for further training, or to recommend her to others." (Director of Primary Care. West London Mental Health Trust)
"As part of a funded research project Charlotte delivered a programme of training and follow-up consultations. As these were part of an independent research study we collected data through observation of her training and supervisions, and tested the impact of the training on practitioners as well as asking for their views on the quality of the training. Our observers were impressed with the quality of the training and Charlotte's mastery of Motivational Interviewing. She provided excellent consultations to workers with very varied levels of skill. We have also just completed our evaluation of the impact on the skills of social workers. Charlotte's training was not just well received - it resulted in substantial and changes in levels of practice skills. Ultimately there is no more important testimonial one can give. Charlotte's training helped to make participants better at their job." (The University of Bedfordshire: Tilda Goldberg Centre)
