Evidence-based Leadership, rooted in psychology

HHC facilitates leadership development from a compassionate and health and wellbeing perspective.

HHC has co-produced leadership programmes for:

  • The public sector
  • The private sector
  • Professional sport

Why develop leadership programmes from a health and wellbeing perspective?

Leadership development is also health and wellbeing development. Leaders shape workload, autonomy, psychological safety, communication, relationships and the culture in which people work. Evidence suggests that compassionate, collaborative leadership is associated with better employee wellbeing and lower sickness absence, while poor management and excessive job demands are recognised psychosocial risks to mental health.

HHC leadership programmes can go beyond traditional skills development to build self-awareness, emotional intelligence, psychologically informed communication, resilience and healthier team practices.

Importantly, the evidence supports a whole-system approach rather than one-off leadership training: combining training with coaching, workplace practice, supportive organisational cultures and team-based approaches, is more likely to translate learning into sustainable change.

In short: investing in psychologically informed leadership development can help organisations create healthier working environments, support staff wellbeing, reduce psychosocial risks and enable leaders to create the conditions in which people and organisations can thrive.

If you're looking for practical training, informed by evidence of what works, HHC has just the thing. Discover our two core programmes:

LEAD (Learn, Empower, Aspire & Deliver)

LEADER (Learn, Empower, Aspire, Deliver, Envision & Reflect)

Both programmes contain content that reflects the necessary knowledge and practical skills that are typical of meeting organisational need and responding to common challenges. Each of the components (i.e., Learn, Empower, Aspire & Deliver), benefit from a blend of theory, psychological and practical skills, communication skills and quality improvement tools. New behaviours are sustained through the integration of self-awareness exercises, coaching and a process of self-practice, self-reflection. Not just another training course, these programmes are designed to influence leadership skills and behaviour that genuinely enhance workplace culture.

You will find more details on the Training and Coaching page. If you'd prefer something even more bespoke, HHC is skilled in co-production and has supported a broad range of organisations to formulate what's right for them.

Develop adaptable, self-aware leaders

Great leadership starts with understanding yourself — and knowing how to adapt your approach to the people and situations around you.

At HHC, we develop leaders who are self-aware, adaptable, psychologically informed and equipped to lead with confidence and compassion.

Our leadership development programmes combine psychological theory with evidence-based behaviour change strategies, providing leaders with practical skills they can apply immediately in the workplace.

Leadership development has the greatest impact when it is relevant to the people and organisation it is designed for. That’s why our programmes are often co-produced with stakeholders, involving them as active participants in shaping the design and delivery. This ensures learning reflects real organisational challenges, priorities and culture — rather than offering a one-size-fits-all programme.

Co-produced. Practical. Evidence-informed.

Compassionate leadership that delivers

HHC recognises that effective leaders need to balance compassion with accountability.

Leaders develop practical skills for navigating difficult conversations, managing conflict, communicating effectively and responding constructively to challenge. They learn how to create environments where people feel supported, valued and able to perform at their best.

From learning to lasting change

HHC leadership programmes are not just about delivering training. Programmes are designed to create genuine, measurable and sustainable impact.

By translating psychological knowledge into practical leadership behaviours, HHC supports organisations to strengthen leadership capability, enhance staff wellbeing and build healthier, more engaged and resilient teams.

The result is leadership development that doesn't simply inspire change — it supports leaders to sustain it. Because continuous improvement and impact measurement is built-in to everything we develop together, you can be confident that you'll not only feel the difference, but you can evidence it too.

Leading Self, Others and Improvement

Testimonies

"We hadn't had the best CQC inspection and staff morale was at an all-time low. The leadership team in particular didn't know where to begin in finding our way to supporting staff to love what they do again, in a culture that thrived. Charlotte worked with us, facilitating discovery sessions that helped us to co-produce a leadership programme. The sessions connected the staff again in a way that we hadn't seen in years! We shared our frustrations, generated ideas for improvement and worked together to create what we now know we really needed, not what we thought we did! Charlotte's curious and creative approach helped us to feel safe and share what was really important to us. The co-produced workshops that she facilitated were excellent - really engaging, and had a great mix of theory and skills. The process of co-production brought our team together before we started the workshops but it was the learning in the workshops that has definitely improved our leadership practice and working culture. I can't thank Charlotte enough! " (Senior Leader, Local Government).
